I’ve only ever been to Bali and never really ventured to other parts of Indonesia.
There are many things said about Indonesia to Australians about what lays beyond the “safety” of Bali.
So when we got to Medan, I was not surprised to find the sort of city you’d expect to find in Indonesia. It was a wonderful tapestry of old crumbling building sitting next to magnificent buildings.
It’s not exactly the sort of place lots of foreigners would go to as their first spot for tourism. It is a very busy and massive city. Rarely did the noise of vehicles die down at night.
