When you’ve been in a relationship for a long time, the excitement you once had for each other can dim. It can seem easier to just stay at home, pull on the track suit pants and big shirt, and then try to find something to watch on your favorite streaming service.
But we know you want to keep the excitement alive. No-one enjoys mechanical routine sex.
So here are just 3 ways to keep your love life exciting.
1. Trying New Things Together
This is a great way of spending time together while leveling the playing field.
Neither of you will be great at doing the new thing, so you are both learning and experiencing something at the same level and at the same time.
It gives you new things to talk about. It also gives you both something to explore together.
But what new things should you try? The new things can be anything you like. The important thing is that it has to be something neither of you have tried before and something you both agree on doing.
If you don’t have agreement, then it will quickly become a chore that is not enjoyed or shared.
2. Planning Surprise Date Nights
We’ve all heard about doing date nights to keep things spicy and exciting. But let’s be honest, these can also get stale and predictable.
So spice things up with surprise date nights! And do something different for them. Don’t just go to the same restaurant or cafe. Do something like go to the movies and see something your partner would love to watch even if it’s not your kind of movie. Or go to see an exhibition or theater or comedy show.
Plan them for a different night to the usual date night, but you have to make sure they’re free or the surprise is not going to be great. So start asking your partner about free nights. Don’t make it obvious or the surprise might be blown.
You don’t even have to make it a night. You can also make it a day when you’re both free.
Surprise date nights are a fun and exciting way of keeping the passion alive, and they’re fun planning them.
3. Surprise Gifts for No Reason
This probably doesn’t need too much explanation but just in case, give your partner a surprise gift out of the blue for no reason. The key here is to pick the timing to spring the gift on them.
It’s a good idea to give it to them when they have time to appreciate it and show their appreciation, if you know what we mean.
The gift should be something thoughtful but if that’s a bit too hard you can always go for the classics like flowers or a bottle of their favorite alcohol or their favorite box of chocolate. But you’ll get more appreciation if you think of something thoughtful and meaningful. So it’s definitely worth thinking about it.
Another key to this one is to not over do it. If you do the surprise gift too frequently the surprise factor wears off as does the level of appreciation you’ll get.

Bonus Tip: Quality Time
Spending quality time with each is important. You can get quality time through trying new things together or going out for a coffee, or even spending time watching shows or movies you both enjoy. Personally, going out for a walk and sitting in the park together is special quality time for us.
Spending this time together gives you a chance to chat and catch up and find out how things are going without the pressure of being on a date or feeling like you are being forced into it. Most importantly, quality time is a chance to remind yourselves what’s special about each other and why you are attracted to each other.
